December 6, 2013 (Fairfax, VA) – The House Republican Caucus re-elected Delegate Tim Hugo to serve as House Majority Caucus Chairman. This is the third ranking position within the House of Delegates.

Delegate Hugo was first elected Caucus Chairman in 2010, and was re-elected by a unanimous vote. He had this to say regarding his re-election:

"It is an honor and a privilege to be re-elected as Majority Caucus Chairman for the House Republicans. The position of Caucus Chairman is one of four elected leadership roles within the House Republican Caucus, and I am honored to be able to serve with Speaker William Howell, Majority Leader Kirk Cox, and Majority Whip Jackson Miller. I look forward to working with Speaker Howell, our leadership team and the entire House Republican Caucus as we continue our focus on creating jobs, keeping Virginia the number one state in which to do business, fighting human traffickers, making higher education available for more Virginians, and working to protect those who can not protect themselves."

House Republicans also unanimously re-elected the other members of the House leadership: Delegate Bill Howell (R- Stafford) will continue to serve as Speaker; Delegate Kirk Cox (R-Colonial Heights) as Majority Leader; and Delegate Jackson Miller (R-Manassas) as Majority Whip.

Speaker William J. Howell commented on Delegate Hugo’s re-election as Majority Caucus Chairman:

"Delegate Hugo is a strong leader in the Virginia House of Delegates and a valuable part of the House Leadership team. Tim’s positive vision for Virginia has time and time again helped us craft solutions to the challenges facing the Commonwealth. His work on economic development and quality of life issues in Northern Virginia and across the state has made him one of Virginia’s most effective legislators. I’m happy to have Tim on my team."

The new Chairman of the House Finance Committee, Lee Ware, nominated Delegate Hugo and said:

"Tim Hugo has proven a versatile legislator and an understanding Caucus Chairman. His capacity to accommodate and to lead the diverse membership of the GOP Caucus from across Virginia have been properly remarked by Capitol observers. Tim is an articulate spokesman for the common convictions of Caucus members."

Delegate Margaret Ransone, who gave the seconding speech for Delegate Hugo’s nomination said:

"As I have completed my first term in the House, I am so appreciative of the responsibilities of our Caucus Chairman. The Republican Caucus members govern from all different regions and enter the Capitol with slightly different positions on issues. Our chairman, Delegate Tim Hugo always led the caucus as a team. He was respectful of each member’s point of view and allowed them the opportunity to share their opinions or concerns so that Republicans continue to create the best policy decisions for the citizens of the Commonwealth.

For this reason, I am honored to second the nomination of Delegate Tim Hugo as the House Republican Caucus Chairman."

While also serving as Majority Caucus Chairman, Delegate Hugo has focused on issues important to his constituents and Virginia. He has worked to fight against human traffickers, helped families dealing with autism, kept taxes low, and kept Virginia the top state in which to do business.

In the upcoming 2014 General Assembly Session, Delegate Hugo will continue to focus on jobs, keeping taxes low, and working to help those who can’t help themselves.

As the third ranking member in the Virginia House of Delegates leadership, Delegate Hugo currently serves as the Majority Caucus Chairman for the House Republican Caucus. He is the Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee and also serves on the Commerce and Labor, Transportation, and Privileges and Election Committees. Delegate Hugo represents Centreville, Clifton, Fairfax, and Fairfax Station in Fairfax County as well as Catharpin, Gainesville, Haymarket, and Manassas in Prince William County.
